Unlike Ruby and Sapphire or Gold and Silver, if you try to evolve a Pokémon not in the Pokedex, the evolution will automatically stop. Sadly, this also stops you from evolving your Onixes and Golbats into Steelixes and Crobats, since Steelix and Crobat are not in the Kanto Pokédex. It kinda sucks... To make this stop, you need to finish the game by beating Blue and then obtain the National Pokedex from Professor Oak. That way, you can get Politoed, Steelix, Crobat and stuff just fine! I dunno if the game stops you from evolving Elekids and Magbys but i guess it may or may not let them evolve since Electabuzz and Magmar are in FRLG. You can breed Magmar and Electabuzz to get their babies on sevii island 4! Alternatively, for the trade evolutions you can trade with a friend that already has finished the game and went through Sevii. VERY IMPORTANT! DO NOT TRADE POKEMON YOU HAVE HIGH FRIENDSHIP WITH! IT RESETS! Also, you cannot get Espeon or Umbreon because FRLG does not have day/night.
